This November, facial hair is taking the month by storm with men sprouting 'staches and beards to support their fellow man. For the third consecutive year, ZERO's Grow & Give campaign is dedicated exclusively to raising awareness and funds to fight prostate cancer, a disease that kills an American man every 20 minutes.
The campaign is simple: grow it out, spread the word, and raise cash for the cause. To date, the campaign has already raised more than $50,000 to help end prostate cancer. In response to a friendly competition between two police departments, ZERO has added a new category this year: first responders.
"We're honored for the service our first responders provide every day," said Jamie Bearse, ZERO's CEO & President. "More than 75 percent of first responders are male, and the awareness and funds from our Grow & Give campaign help to keep them and other men in their communities informed about their risks."
Although they sparked the competition, Laurel PD and Ozaukee Sheriff's Dept. are not the only squads bearding up and raising funds this November. Nearly a dozen first responder teams from across the country have joined the challenge thus far. The campaign is clearly resonating with police, firefighters, and EMTs.
"It's for men's health, for men to realize they need to get checked out, too," says Ozaukee County Sheriff James Johnson. "Many men avoid doctors - I'm one of them - but we have to do it. Not only for ourselves, but for our families and our children, to be there for them."
