Worldwide, approximately 240 million people have chronic hepatitis B infection and 80 million people have chronic hepatitis C infection - two liver infections that together result in an estimated 1.4 million deaths worldwide. A stepped-up global response can no longer be delayed.
The Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis is the first of its kind and, when implemented, will contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Strategy outlines a Vision, Goals and Targets, Frameworks for Action, and 5 critical Strategic Directions to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
