Despite declines in opioid prescribing, we still have too many people getting prescriptions for too many days at too high a dose. According to newly released data, enough opioids were prescribed in 2015 for every American to be medicated around the clock for three weeks. More progress is needed, and changes in annual prescribing from 2006 to 2015 hold promise that prescribing practices can improve.
