Dear Friend,

While tremor, slowness and rigidity are the most common and well-known motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), some people also experience changes in their walking and balance.

Gait changes can range from mild -- slower speed, decreased arm swing, shuffling steps -- to more significant -- difficulty getting started or freezing in place. Balance problems can lead to unsteadiness and falls or make daily activities more challenging.

In this "Ask the MD" video, I discuss walking and balance symptoms of PD and how they're managed, as well as ongoing research toward better understandings and new therapies.
