Leafy Greens Likely Source of Multistate
E. coli Outbreak

CDC, several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration continue to investigate a multistate outbreak of 24 Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 infections in 15 states.  The likely source of the outbreak in the United States appears to be leafy greens, but health officials have not identified a specific type of leafy greens as the source.
CDC does not think there is a continued risk to the public’s health from this outbreak. Leafy greens have a short shelf life, and the contaminated food that caused this outbreak is likely no longer on the market.
