Helen is part of the Biological Sciences publishing team at BioMed Central. She obtained her PhD in molecular ecology from the University of Glasgow, UK. Her post-doctoral studies in aquaculture genetics took her from Scotland to South Africa, before joining BMC in 2008.
Sustainable energy at the American Chemical Society Spring meeting
The theme of the Spring meeting of the American Chemical Society was the nexus of food, energy and water in the face of a growing world population. A notion debated during the meeting was transitioning to renewable energy sources. Here, I discuss the potentials and the obstacles of such a feat.
During his plenary talk, Mark Jacobson (Stanford University) presented a striking vision for a worldwide transition to 100% clean renewable energy from wind, solar and hydroelectricity.
